Tri-State Keeshond Rescue is a group dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of Keeshond Dogs in the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana region.
With the aid of our members we help dogs rescued from a variety of locations and situations. Many have come from animal shelters, puppy mills, back yard breeders, or families whose circumstances have altered so that they can no longer properly care for the canine family member.
Each rescued dog is taken into a foster home for evaluation and socialization. This process allows us to determine the temperament and health of each dog. We spend time getting the dog familiar with a home environment where they are treated with the respect and love they deserve. We check for health issues, such as if they have heart worms, dietary issues, and infections and we work with local veterinarians to get these cleared up. Additionally, we work on any temperament issues so the dog can transition more easily when we find a suitable home for them.
Once we address their medical and social issues, we offer them up to adoption. This process begins once someone is interested in an available dog by filling out our adoption form. On the form we request references, information on whom they will use for veterinary services, and information about previous canine companions. We will do a home visit. This is to insure that the environment is a safe one for our dogs.
With the assistance of other rescue groups around the country we also provide transportation assistance, called Railroads, to get Keeshonden in need to a distant location. A railroad may be necessary to get a canine to their foster home, transfer a canine from one rescue group to another or helping a Keeshond travel to their forever home.
